13 October 2011 Trailblazers interview Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson in the House of Lords
Last week, Trailblazers were delighted to have the opportunity to interview Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson in the House of Lords.
Tanni, as she likes to be called, is one of Britain's leading sports personalities and in her career has won 11 gold medals for Great Britain at 5 Paralympic Games. She now spends much of her time in the House of Lords debating and raising issues, including those affecting disabled people.
Talking about Trailblazers she said:
It's about encouraging disabled people to have a voice, meeting other people, and finding ways to cope. You then become better at dealing with things yourself.
Things won't get better unless disabled people speak out for themselves, there is lots of change happening, but we need a strong voice.
Tanvi Vyas who interviewed Tanni said:
It was such a brilliant opportunity to interview Tanni, she was refreshingly down to earth and shared some challenges that many of us will have faced. Even world class athletes struggle with access sometimes but its about having the right attitude and getting voices heard.
It was really positive to know that some of the work Trailblazers is doing is being recognised at such a level.
The full interview will be be available on this website soon and will include Baroness Grey-Thompson's thoughts on challenging perceptions of disability, campaigning and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic.Games
