30 April 2012 Help test London's Tube lifts

I received this invitation this morning on testing public transport in London prior to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It sounds like a good opportunity for those of us in the London area.

Dear Stakeholder.

London Underground is currently holding a series of Olympic exercises with disabled customers and other users of lifts (e.g. pushchair users), in order to prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These will help us test out plans for making sure that disabled people and other lift users get the assistance they need when using the Tube during the Games.

The next exercise event will be held during the Games' Athletics Test Event which will provide conditions similar to those we are expecting during the Olympics. We are looking for a maximum of 40 participants to take part in the Olympic Exercise.

During the test event we will be asking trial participants to queue at lifts and travel between stations on the network making use of the lifts. All of the journeys we make will be suitable for wheelchair users. We will ask for your feedback on this experience. In payment for your time and help we are offering £35.00 plus travel expenses. Please be aware that it may take up to 90 days for payments to be made, and that a full payment will only be made to those participants who attend the whole of the session.

As we want to replicate Games' time conditions where people might be travelling together, we welcome people bringing a friend with them, who would then be counted as a participant. Although, if you wish to come by yourself that is also fine. If you will require any assistance during the trial this will be accommodated; please advise us of this when you reply.

Date: Saturday 5th May

Location: 14 Pier Walk, London, SE10 0ES. The briefing will be held here, before we move out onto the tube network.

Start time: 10:00

End time: 13:00

Duration: 3 hours

Additional details: The nearest tube is North Greenwich which has step-free access from street to train.

If you are interested in taking part please contact me by 12:00 on Wednesday 2nd May with your full name, postal address (for payment which will be sent by cheque) and any access requirements you have. Please also let me know whether you and anyone accompanying you will require a ticket for travel during the event or whether you will be using your freedom pass.

Please also contact me if you have any questions or would like help planning your journey. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Imogen
