15 June 2012 Meeting Edward Garnier MP for Leicester
I attended the APPG parliamentary meeting on Disability Hate Crime on Wed 13 June and also met with the MP for Leicester Edward Garnier.
The APPG was an eye-opening session, hearing fellow Trailblazers experiences shocked and angered me. I find it difficult to understand how people can act in such a malicious way, it is pathetic. I personally have not been involved with Hate Crime, and do not know how I would cope in a similar situation. Fingers crossed I never would have to find out. But the meeting empowered me to recognize and report these incidents, so the Police can gather the info needed to stop repeat offenders. I think it is our duty as disabled people to report this to make the future.
This campaign is brilliant, society needs to hear all about Disability Hate Crime and Trailblazers will bring it in the forefront.
After the APPG I met Leicester MP Edward Garnier, a meeting organized by Bobby Ancil.
The meeting was scheduled for 4.05 in the Central Lobby but Edward Garnier was in a voting session so he couldn't come out until the voting was over. I met him at 4.35 for 10mins. We discussed the APPG meeting, disability hate crime and spoke about fellow Trailblazers experiences. He said that he has not heard much about Disability Hate Crime in Leicester and was shocked to hear how widespread it was, he acknowledged the good work of Trailblazers.
Edward Garnier was a lovely person, within a short period of time he filled me with confidence that he would do anything for me and Trailblazers.
